SHELBY – Paul Kendrick, executive director of Rust Belt Rising, was the guest speaker at the March meeting of the Shelby Area Democratic Club. He spoke via Zoom about his agency’s mission. It works with candidates in the six Great Lakes states to create messaging that resonates with working people.
“The most important thing,” Kendrick said, “is to remember that what you say matters less than how you make someone feel. People don’t always remember what you say, but they certainly will remember how they feel.”
Rust Belt Rising’s services are free, and it provides resources both for candidates and for organizers. Its Zoom sessions feature some of the nation’s best political organizers and strategists.
“Be open. In order to persuade, you must be persuadable,” noted Kendricks.
During the business session, officers and member discussed a number of topics. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly will keynote the Richland County Democratic Party’s Legacy Dinner on April 13th. Plans are underway for the club’s Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast in May. Details are being finalized. County party vice chairwoman Venita Shoulders updated members about the “Citizens Not Politicians” ballot initiative to once-and-for-all eliminate gerrymandering in Ohio.
The club will next gather on Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 pm in the Sutter-Roush Room.
