Shelby Area Dems elect 2024 officers

County party chairman Larry Weirich installs the Shelby Area Democratic Club’s officers. They are vice president Gail Eckstein, president John Makley, and secretary Cindy Gordon, and treasurer Garland Gates.

SHELBY – Shelby Area Democratic Club members recently braved cold temperatures and met for the organization’s annual meeting, as required by the Ohio Revised Code and by the group’s constitution. Members unanimously reelected John Makley as president, Gail Eckstein as vice president, Cindy Gordon as secretary, and Garland Gates as treasurer. Officers will serve one-year terms. Richland County Democratic Party chairman Larry Weirich presided over the officers’ installation.

Mr. Weirich presented his “State of the Party” to the gathering. “It’s always a great time to be a Democrat,” he declared.

Chairman Weirich gave an update about Democratic Headquarters located at 16 South Park Street in Mansfield. The building is now open 6 days per week for community outreach and candidate support. Needed repairs to the building are moving along.

“The party is financially sound. We’re here to support our candidates,” chairman Weirich concluded.

During the business meeting, members discussed a number of topics: the March 19 primary election, the county party’s Legacy Dinner, the club’s Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast, and others.

The next meeting of the Shelby Area Democratic Club is scheduled for Thursday, February 15. It will take place at 7:00 pm in the Sutter-Roush Room, 23 East Main Street. Area Democrats and persons of goodwill are always welcome to attend.
